The General's Daughter is a good crime fiction novel, but it's a straight-forward whodunit that doesn't have the humour and quirkiness of DeMille's John Corey series. Much like TV's JAG, The General's Daughter is about an army investigation into the murder of one of its own, in this case the general's daughter.
