12,090 A.D. It is a dark time for the world. Humanity is just crawling out from under three hundred years of domination by the race of vampires known as the Nobility. The war against the vampires has taken its toll; cities lie in ruin, the countryside is fragmented into small villages and fiefdoms that still struggle against nightly raids by the fallen vampires - and the remnants of their genetically manufactured demons and werewolves. Every village wants a Hunter - one of the warriors who have pledged their laser guns and their swords to the eradication of the Nobility. But some Hunters are better than others, and some bring their own kind of danger with them. From creator Hideyuki Kikuchi, one of Japan's leading horror authors with illustrations by renowned Japanese artist, Yoshitaka Amano, best known for his illustrations in Neil Gaiman's Sandman: The Dream Hunters and the Final Fantasy games.Rating About Books Vampire Hunter D (Vampire Hunter D #1)

It is 12,090 A.D. The world has ended, ravaged in a firestorm of mans wars and madness. But from the wreckage a few humans manage to survive, and a race of forgotten creatures rose up from the ashes. The vampires and their legions of bloodthirsty demons. Doris Lang, orphaned daughter of a werewolf hunter, hires the dhampir Vampire Hunter D to take care of the vampire that has marked her to become one with the undead: Count Magnus Lee. But the vampiric ruler of that Frontier sector is only one ofI love the post-apocalyptic dystopia setting of the VHD novels ... I think that D and his very sassy hand are intriguing characters, and the plots of the novels are interesting. It's a richly imagined dark fantasy/sci-fi world. However, I do not like the narration style at all. It has this over-the-top pulp fiction kind of feel that is incredibly cheesy, in my opinion. Your mileage may vary! :)I'm going to give the new manga a try. I really want to like the VHD stories, but after wincing my way
One of my favorite anime concepts; gothic fantasy horror meets post apocalypse distant future science fiction. Enjoyed the book but loved the two English-forged movies made from the concepts.
Ive watched the anime film of Vampire Hunter D, and was intrigued to see what the books like. As January is vampire month for the Paranormal Challenge, I thought this seemed like a good time to give it a try.I wasnt quite sure what to make of the book at first because its written in a very odd style. I suppose this could be down to the translation, but to me it felt like a deliberate choice. It seemed to be going for a kind of pulp style, which suits the weird setting and atmosphere, but it
So many interesting concepts. past and future blend together so well. This is one of my all time favorite books.
I expected much from this book. I've being buying these books since the first time they were published and not reading... Sometimes I am afraid to ruin a book by reading. I idealize something on my mind and I am afraid by reading it I will destroy it. But the time was up and I promised my girlfriend that it would be the first book of the year... It was. I start reading on new year's eve and finish while staying, again, at the hospital. It was a good read and I enjoyed throughouly. It was very
This was a unique story. I've never seen the anime movie so this was completely new to me. The futuristic, post-apocalyptic vampire storyline was cool. However I felt the dialogue and some passages of the book read kinda funny, but I'm thinking that's a translation issue. Overall a decent story.
