Explanation In Pursuance Of Books Avenger
Attorney Calvin Dexter hangs his shingle in a quiet New Jersey town, has a reasonably successful practice, and takes the hills strong while triathalon training. But Dexter is no ordinary man.The summer before he goes to college, Ricky Colenso travels to Bosnia to volunteer as an aid worker. A few weeks later, he disappears and is never heard from again. A family grieves and is offered little hope--in the fog of that horrible time and place, the killer, too, has vanished.
Or so it would seem. For in a world that has forgotten right and wrong, there are few like Cal Dexter who can settle the score. And so, years later, a worldwide chase is on and Dexter begins to draw a net around the killer. But this time CIA agent Paul Devereux must find a way to stop Dexter before his quest for vengeance throws the world into chaos.
A heart-stopping novel of murder and mystery, double-cross and triple-cross, old loyalties and new hatreds, Avenger has all of Frederick Forsyth's page-turning trademarks.

I have never read Forsyth but know of him primarily from hearing about The Day of the Jackal, so when a friend loaned me this book, I was interested in seeing just how great a writer he was.Avenger opened with a three paragraph stage-setting prolog that didnt even fill a quarter of a page. This is a good way to start a thriller.Chapter 1 introduced the main character over eight pages and ended with the event that draws him into action. Again, this was good because the reader wants to know a bitA decent thriller from Forsyth. Lots of historical facts mixed in to the fictional events which I enjoy. 3.5 stars for this one.
Occasionally I read Forsyth ... Avenger is a real page-turner, and I don't think many readers doubt if revenge can be justified ... anyway, FF at his best!
Excellent; former military man takes up role of Avenger; chasing down criminals to bring to justice, this one a Serb who killed an American boy in Bosnia; the US govt tries to foil the plot for its own reasons.
I hate to say anything bad about the book because it was excellent. I was not interested in reading everything other than the Avengers destruction of this Monster and his thugs. learned a lot about other things though.

Very cleverly written.Throughout the book, it can be easily mistaken to be a collection of short stories but which Forsyth has very cleverly combined together to create a story which can be easily comparable to The Day of the Jackal. However, the mystery that surrounded the Jackal with regard to his identity is never seen here in The Avenger, Cal Dexter. One of the main plus points of this book is that it's short and sweet with a no nonsense approach, whether it be the Avenger's past or the inner
