Lets all agree on this right up front: the covers of the Vorkosigan Saga books are horrible. Just plain awful. The cover art for anything published by Baen is pretty bad, enough to make even the proud nerds of today cringe and place the book face-down whenever possible to avoid being snickered at. But these covers in particular, with their dramatic poses and odd retro fonts, seem to house a strange breed of quasi-historical space pulp that embodies everything that serious readers should avoid.

Before I begin, allow me to puke in a corner. Now that I'm done with that, here's what I thought. It wasn't all it was cracked up to be, that's for sure. I have a lengthy list of complaints.
