I know this is first and foremost a murder mystery series but I can't stop thinking about Roarke. Let me get those pesky details out of the way and then commence the gushing, mnkay?So the opening scene is once again Eve being called to the scene of a grisly murder. This is the second installment in JD Robb's (alias for Nora Roberts) In Death futuristic romantic suspense series, and I enjoyed it! The relationship between Eve Dallas and Roarke is further explored with some angst involved as Rourke admitted he was in love with Eve, but Eve is not ready to say it back to him and truly commit. As always it was a great book. I even enjoyed that Roarke broke down Eve's walls, well at least one of them. They make such a great pair and the ending was also a great surprise as always. Well written and great mystery.Re-read- Feb.28,2019I enjoyed this the second time around because I didn't remember certain things like the small things you tend to over look do to the fact that you are wondering who the killer is. What can I say? This is pretty much a picture-perfect formula. A big dash of romance with a perfectly rich man, a murder mystery with a normal police procedural plot, and a tiny, tiny sprinkle of mild futuristic SF. There's so little SF, as a matter of fact, that I hesitate to even mention it. It's really just a regular formula. Mindless? Yes. Easy? Yes.Still fun, for all of that?Sure. I didn't want anything mind-blowing. It was okay.

4.25 stars!I dare say I loved this one a bit more than book one just because we see Roarke and Eve more established as a couple. I also loved the way Roarke handle those relationship bumps with Eve. He gives her place, treats her as an equal and respects her profession and still maintains his alpha male status. The mystery part is always a plus and Eve is a fantastic detective always so through. I wasnt really surprised by the killer but I enjoyed how it was played. Looking forward to the next

Honestly, the only thing I didn't love about this one? Was the entitled family all agog over a police officer doing her duty (though, I mean, it's right there in the sentence : entitled), and that the murderer went seriously unhinged at the end for the big confrontation. Otherwise, though? I really enjoyed this one. The romance is still speed of light fast but things were handled better in this one, communication was had, feelings considered, and.. I don't know. It's weird. I just liked it.
